Dressing On A Dime; The Where In The Heck Have You Been Edition

Hi everyone! I know that I have been gone too long. It has been a rocky three months. Let me see if I can give you the run down.

A. My car was totaled.
B. Our house was broken into twice. They took our laptops, all my cameras and my son's gaming stuff.
C. During all this time, my son's FFA pig had babies which not too long after they were born had health issues resulting in losing half of them to staph infection.
D. We received a $1000 tax bill because my son did not qualify for the child tax credit because he was 17 for a whole three days in 2010.

I could go on ( I am serious there is more) but I am depressing myself and I am sure you too.  So let's move on!  I decided I needed to make a post and dress up and do a Dressing On A Dime segment. Here it goes...

Denim Jacket - Thrifted
Yellow Tank - Wal Mart
Skirt - Thrifted
Shoes - Thrifted
Ring - L.A. Garment District

I love this outfit. It felt light and breezy and I finally felt like summer was here. Seeing how California was still having rain and cloudy days all the way into May and June, I was beginning to think that I would never get to say that. Whew! I will have to remember this post when it is 100 degrees and I am wishing for winter to hurry up and get here.

I hope everyone is doing well.

Let's Talk Turkey

This last week was parent conferences at school. Because of said conferences, I had an early schedule at my early job. What did this mean? This meant that I had time to leisurely look at my favorite thrifts. Yay me!!!! And let me say, they didn't disappoint.

Melmac Turkey Platter - $3.98
I was at the RAD Thrift Store and seen this little beauty sitting on the floor. There were two ladies who gave me a dirty look because I am sure they were headed over to it next. I got there first ladies. You snooze you lose. Hah!!! The label on the back says Apollo Ware by Alexander Barna. I haven't investigated it yet but I probably will soon. It will definitely be put to use this Thanksgiving. I can taste the turkey now. " ) Yum!

If you have turkey you gotta have something to serve it on. Enter my next finds...

Franciscan Harvest Brown Wheat Plates - $1.91 ea. (3 total)

I was drawn to these plates by their gold color. I fell in love with the wheat pattern on front and knew I had to buy them when I seen the Franciscan stamp on the back. I E-Bayed them and found out that they are from 1953. I am currently considering buying the matching salad plates on E-Bay. We shall see.

Pier One Plates - $9.95 for set of 10 [lates

I bought this set of plates at the Goodwill. I have the serving bowl that matches this set. It came with 5 dinner plates and 5 salad plates. I can't wait to use them.

Autumn Finds

I really haven't been thrifting a lot lately. First, because of a lack of paycheck (boo!!!!) and secondly there just isn't a whole lot of time in my day. I finally received a paycheck this last week so I made my way to a few thrifts with the little bit of time I had. What did I find?

PYREX!!!!!

Last night at the Salvation Army, I found this orange baking dish. How perfect is this for Halloween? I want to go and buy a bunch of the mini pumpkins and gourds and make a centerpiece for my dining room table. I just love it!

I found these bowls on Thursday at the other Salvation Army. It is a set of Autumn Harvest mixing bowls. It is missing the largest bowl the 444.  This is the first time I have found a set together. I think I may move some things around on my china hutch and display them for fall.

And finally.....

I have found my first Pyrex coffee pot. It is missing the lid but it doesn't matter.
I just love the starburst design.

I am linking this post up at Pyrex Collective. What a great place to see everyone else's great Pyrex treasures.

Dressing On A Dime - The Wedding Crasher Addition

Today, I attended the wedding of my husband's niece.
Here is my husband and the bride. (Please excuse the fact that he is wearing a t-shirt and shorts. He had a gig tonight and he had to set up before the wedding and he didn't have time to change.)

Top - Merona (thrifted)
Skirt - Apt. 9 (thrifted)
Belt - (thrifted)
Shoes - Fioni (thrifted)

This outfit is entirely thrifted. I bought the black tank this week at the RAD Thrift Store. As you can see, it has little sequin dots all over the front. I went with the tan and gold shoes because the skirt has gold dots in the center of the flowers. You can't really see them in the picture. I decided to finish it off with bronzy gold belt.  I also had a gold bracelet and 2 black bead bracelets on my right wrist. I am not sure why I am hiding my arm.

Calling All Detectives!

I am in need of some help from all my friends in blogland. I have acquired a piece of Pyrex that I cannot find any information on at all. I have looked at Pyrex Love , ebay and all over the web to no avail. It is driving me nuts!
Here it is.
It is a lid that goes with a divided casserole dish. It has a hot air balloon on it. I have considered that someone could have possibly took etching cream and put this balloon on themselves but I am not convinced that is the case. I know that Pyrex has a chip and dip set that had a hot air balloon motif so could it be possible that they had a promotional dish that had this lid? Hmmmm...... I wonder.
If it is genuine, I would like to know what the accompanying dish looks like.
Any info would be appreciated!

In other Pyrex news: I have three new pieces to share.

Divided Dish - $2.50

I know I need another divided dish like I need a whole in my head but I really like this pattern and I would really like to collect more of it.

Square baking pan - $2.98

Large lasagna pan - $3.98

I always go to the RAD thrift store. In all the times that I have been going there I have never seen this kind of Pyrex. I have seen the tired, old clear Pyrex but never any of the patterned stuff. I nearly fainted when I came upon these two pieces. This is the pattern that I am trying to collect. What are the chances? Apparently good! Haha.... It will join its brethren in the form of a medium cinderella dish and a small cinderella bowl and several pieces of Corelle.

More Treasures and More To Come?

We will soon be on our way to Vegas again. I am excited to see what the thrift scene in Nevada has to offer this time round. I am not in the market for anything in particular so it will definitely be fun to see where the thrift gods take me.

Until then, I have two more things to share,

$2.95
I love this milk glass vase. I can see it filled with a dozen beautiful roses. I really like the look of milk glass but I never buy it because the thrift stores price it so high. I was completely in shock to find that this vase was only $2.95. It is a pretty big sized vase too. That's an extra bonus.

$1.31

Sometimes I walk through a thrift store and I completely cannot believe the audacity of those that price the stuff. I am not a Rockefeller ya know. Then there are times that I feel like a highway robber who should have entered the store with a bandana across my face and a six shooter. I feel like they are paying me. This wood box was one of those times. I was wandering around the RAD Thrift Store and I saw it sitting on a table. I picked it up and could not even believe the price. $1.31!!! OMG! I did not even question whether I wanted it or not. It came home with me immediately.  I think it would be wonderful with little clay pots filled with herbs.  It would look cute sitting on my kitchen counter.

Hopefully, I will have some treasures to share from the Silver State. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

I Couldn't Wait

I just couldn't wait to show you what I found this week.

$2.92
I thought this gravy boat was beautiful. I am not sure what kind of flower is on the front but I just love it. And at $2.92 (what an odd price) I couldn't pass it up.

.90 cents
I guess it is official. I have a collection. A collection of creamers. My oh my! This stoneware creamer is made in Japan and is from the Moutain Wood Collection. I will have to reaserch and see what I can find out about it.

$4.20
I first came across the creamer and sugar bowl when I walked into the RAD Thrift Store. It totally reminded me of being a kid in the seventies. We would go to visit friends and relatives and they would always have a sugar bowl on the kitchen table. I found the cups later in, where else, the coffee cup section. : ) All I need is a retro coffee pot. Maybe a percolator.

I definitely have more to share.

The Cream(ers) Of The Crop

I am not sure how I got on this latest kick of buying creamers. I have seen a lot of them while out and about and I just decided to buy them. It doesn't hurt that they are not that expensive and I really like the shapes and colors of them. I am not sure if this is a collection that I will keep adding to. I will see what the thrift stores have to offer and what my fancy decides.

.90 cents

I just fell in love with this little creamer. It says Yellowstone Park and you gotta love that the little bears are warming their hands over a campfire. Too cute!

$1.00

I bought this at one of our local Goodwills. It is Pyrex and it matches a few of the bowls I already have. They had the matching plates. They were a bit too much for my budget. But, I will keep checking to see if they eventually come down in price so I can add them to this cute little pitcher.

$1.00
This is a Mikasa creamer. I tried to find out which pattern it is a part of but no luck. I thought the blue was really pretty and I love the s-shaped handle.

Last but not least...

$1.00

I got this little beauty on a thrifting trip with my sister. She and her husband just moved back to California from Arkansas. She cracked me up because she was amazed that our thrift stores were open on a Sunday. This tells me that I do not want to live in Arkansas anytime soon if the thrift stores aren't open on Sunday.

I still have more to share so stay tuned....

Last Weekend's Finds

Last weekend, I went to the thrift stores to see what I could find. I went to my favorite store, The RAD thrift store because I always know that I will find a good bargain. I was not to be disappointed this time either.

I spent all of $5 at this store. I got 3 sweaters, a skirt and a pretty ceramic tray with a rooster on it.

After the RAD Thrift Store, I headed to The Salvation Army. They were having a really good sidewalk sale and they had a pair of blue boots that I had to have (my shoe obsession again) and they also had an old and cute typewriter table on sale. Unfortunately to get the deal, you had to have cash. I don't carry cash. Dumb, I know. I still bought the boots though. I just paid the regular price of $4.
While there, I found another piece of Pyrex.

I kind of got excited. I had never seen this pattern before so I knew I had to have it. I was a bit put off by the $9 price tag but I figured I better snatch it up because I might not find it again. When I took it to the register, the clerk informed me that it was half off. Cha ching!!!!!! $4.50 sounded good to me. I left with my Pyrex divided dish, blue boots and a VHS copy of Fantasia 2000 that had never been opened.

When I got home, I researched to find out what I had found. It is called Barbwire pattern. It was a promotional item from 1958. It originally came with a clear lid and a rack. Exciting!!!!
